Garage door already!

We got a garage door, but aren't locked out. The front door still doesn't have a lock.

We decided to get a 3rd party inspection for the pre-drywall only. The inspector only charged $185 and for my peace of mind, it's worth it. My hub is meeting him & our PM on Monday and will have a list of concerns so he can double check...mainly the huge knots in a few of the wood pieces and the large gaps between the outside panels. We're heading there tomorrow morning to look at everything in detail to see if we need to add anything else to the list.

  1. Aw! Good for you! It can never hurt. This is a hefty investment (a house). Never hurts to get someone who knows the business and the codes to look it over.

  2. This might sound odd but that is a really attractive garage door. Did you pick that out or is that what came standard with that model?

  3. congrats on the door install. another step closer right?
I agree that it is a good idea to have a second set of "Qualified" eyes looking out for you specifically. I believe the PM's are out for your interest, but they still work for Ryan and have deadlines, etc...
I have lined up some buddies that work in the various trades; i.e. electrician, plumber, etc... and they have said they will walk the house with me. I'm not sure where you live, but Ohio has no regulation for House Inspectors. So any yahoo with a level can be a "house inspector". Make sure you are getting a quality guy.
    Good luck!!

  4. @JohnandColleen - In our community, the houses come standard with the "carriage" garage doors, upgraded siding, and an indoor sprinkler system. Ryan is building another smaller community down the street where these weren't standard.

@Noey & SgtRich - The extra set of eyes are definitely worth the extra money to me. I don't think MD has any regulations either. My husband did the research on the inspector, but it sounded as if he had experience inspecting pre-drywall

  5. Awll. I'm glad to hear that. It will make you feel better and having the peace of mind is totally worth it. Our pre-drywall and inspection went well. Only a few minor issues that the PM will address for me. I will post about it soon. Have a great weekend!

  6. I love that garage door! I'm also glad to hear that you took the necessary precautions and took along an independent inspector--it's great to be safe than sorry!
